MFOS | Noise Toaster |
Description | The Music From Outer Space Noise Toaster is an easy to build project that features a wide range VCO, white noise generator, cool low pass filter, simple VCA, AR envelope generator with repeat or manual triggering and a modultaion LFO with Square, Integrated Square and Differentiated Square waves The design offers a normalized switching scheme for creating sounds by setting the switches, no cables required. Additionally, the kit offers a PCB that has Pads for Interfacing to other DIY projects, a built in One Watt Audio Amplifier and Speaker, and runs off one 9V battery for portablilty and long battery life. The Music From Outer Space Noise Toaster makes a plethora of plethoras of cool and interesting sounds that WILL attract alien visitations - CAUTION ADVISED. This device WILL DEFINITELY cut into TV viewing time and is said to stimulate. plant growth and calm. goldfish. The MFOS NOISE TOASTER circuit consists of seven main components: a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), a white noise generator, a voltage controlled low pass filter (VCF), a low frequency oscillator (LFO), a simple AR envelope generator (AREG), a simple voltage controlled amplifier (VCA), and a one watt amplifier that drives a small speaker. The unit is powered by one nine volt battery and due to the low current drain of the LM324 (Lo-Power Quad Op Amp) it gets a lot of miles out of a nine volt battery. The circuit draws about 15mA to 25mA dependent on volume level when using the internal amp. When using line out the unit draws slightly under 15mA. Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) The voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) in the NOISE TOASTER provides a nice wide range of frequency and two waveforms (ramp and square). It is known as a ramp core design since the main waveform results in a ramp wave. In a modular synthesizer this wave would be converted into several other waveforms through various electronic techniques. In the NOISE TOASTER this wave is also converted to a square wave. IC U1-C (1/4 LM324 Low Power Quad Op Amp) is used to sum the control voltages that modulate the frequency of the VCO. |

Velocity | As with a piano, the harder you hit a key, the louder the sound, unlike most organs which always produce the same loudness no matter how hard you hit a key. | Aftertouch | Pressing a key after you activated it. Channel Aftertouch, no matter which key, it will send a Channel message. Poly Aftertouch, sends the pressure per key instead of the whole channel. |
